Research
Intelligent Network Systems aims at developing information and network technologies to provide intelligent support for human activities in a safe and secure environment. We are especially concerned with an intelligent network system in which computers and people work together to facilitate human collaboration and communication. For this objective, we are exploring four research directions: intelligent information processing, information security, distributed systems, and ad hoc networks.
Intelligent Information Processing

To provide friendly human-computer interface that can facilitate human-computer and human-human communication, we aim at creating conversational robots that interact with human users using text, speech, gaze and gestures. Such conversational robots can support and stimulate human collaborative activities in a variety of tasks such as group learning, daily life support, health care, and computer-mediated telecommunication. In addition, we are developing computer programs that can solve English entrance exams for universities to enhance natural language processing for conversational robots.
Information Security

To realize safe usage of information on some stand-alone computers or some computer networks, we develop algorithms and/or protocols concerning various security situations. Especially, we have an interest in cryptography for safe communication on a computer network, electrical watermark for right usage of information, hash function for convenient usage of information, and so on.
Distributed Systems

To construct highly-available and highly-scalable information systems, we develop distributed data structures and algorithms on network systems which consist of autonomously-managed computers. We are aiming to provide distributed index mechanisms which can deal with varied query conditions and frequent data updates on huge computer network systems.
Ad Hoc Networks

To achieve a safe and secure society, the ubiquitous and intelligent transport system is important. These systems are built on the secure and efficient network. People's lives are made safer and more convenient in delivering necessary information at once. We try to realize the communication scheme which has the highly efficiency and low latency in high-traffic network.
