Univesity Please visit the Akita Prefectural University Home Page for a comprehensive look at the University Post Conference Shirakami Mountain Tours The Shirakami Mountain Range, which runs along the border between Akita and Aomori Prefectures and contains Japan's largest virgin beech forest, has been registered as a World Heritage Natural Resource; Of course this splendid natural resource has many possibilities as a tourist area, but with its declaration as a World Heritage Natural Resource, it must also be considered as a legacy to be preserved for future generations. Our ancestors lived and thrived in this rich nature, developing a unique culture, which has been handed down to us. Therefore, now it is the responsibility of today's modern generations to go from trying to think of ways our natural resources can be used for tourism to thinking of what kind of legacy we want to pass down to our descendants. ![]() Shirakami-Mountains "World Heritage Natural Resource"(Japanese) |
